Premier Level 1 trauma and stroke center leverages Vizzia RTLS solutions.

About Grady Health System

Grady Health System in Atlanta, Georgia is one of the largest safety-net health systems in the United States. It includes the 953-bed Grady Memorial Hospital, six neighborhood health centers and the Marcus Stroke and Neuroscience Center.

Grady operates the premier Level I trauma center in metro Atlanta and handles more than 700,000 patient visits each year. It has been recognized as one of the nation’s “Most Wired” hospitals for eight consecutive years and earned the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 designation.

Over the past five years, Grady has partnered with HID Healthcare RTLS to advance asset management, environmental monitoring and patient workflow. By using InVIEW™ software and managed RTLS services, Grady has been able to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and support critical patient care.

RTLS Asset Management Optimization

Grady first turned to HID Healthcare RTLS to upgrade its legacy asset tracking system. Our professional services team conducted clinical interviews and a comprehensive audit to ensure optimal facility coverage.

With the deployment of InVIEW software, Grady’s biomedical engineering department now tracks more than 8,000 medical devices across all facilities. This has improved utilization rates, reduced search times for equipment and ensured staff can access clean, ready-to-use devices when needed.

“The HID Healthcare RTLS partnership has been very valuable to Grady. Their fully managed solutions and support team provide important benefits to our operations.”

– Vivek Pandian, Executive Director of IT, Grady Health System

Clinical Environmental Monitoring

HID Healthcare RTLS also protects critical medical supplies such as blood products and vaccines. Real-time alerts notify clinicians if a refrigerator or freezer falls outside required conditions, ensuring products remain safe and effective.

Our environmental monitoring solution complies with federal guidelines from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). With live 24/7 customer support, clinicians receive proactive outreach to confirm that every alert is resolved.

Stroke Patient Workflow

The Marcus Stroke and Neuroscience Center at Grady is one of the nation’s leading facilities for complex stroke care. To support this mission, HID Healthcare RTLS collaborated with physicians, nurses and clinicians to develop StrokeStat℠, an innovative workflow application that leverages real-time patient movement data.

StrokeStat helps minimize “door-to-needle” time, enabling trauma teams to deliver faster treatment for acute strokes. By reducing delays, the solution supports better outcomes, including reduced long-term effects and lives saved.

Nurse Call Enhancement

With nearly 1,650 nurses serving 953 beds, Grady needed a more efficient nurse call system. Working with Grady and its nurse call provider, HID Healthcare RTLS optimized the RTLS network to support automated nurse call and staff duress features.

Today, more than 1,000 RTLS staff tags are in use across the hospital, improving accuracy in locating staff and patients while supporting safety in Georgia’s largest hospital and premier Level I trauma center.
